Kingfisher Parcel Special Use Lease
Protecting the Badlands!!
Background of this project:
The goal of the Friends of the Dubois Badlands has always been to protect the beautiful BLM Dubois Wilderness Study Area (WSA). We want to protect the integrity of this area and maintain access for the public to enjoy and benefit from it.
The Kingfisher parcel provides the only public access to trails that lead to the Wilderness Study Area. This is State Trust land whose purpose is to generate income for Wyoming Public schools. Other State Trust Lands in Wyoming have been leased or bought by commercial outfits whose use of the land has interfered with previous uses like access to trails. In order to safeguard the Kingfisher parcel we propose to apply for a recreational Special Use Lease from the State that would protect this parcel for its current uses for several decades. Please see the below documents for more details on this project. We’d love to hear from you about your thoughts for this special piece of Dubois. Send suggestions to jdbadlands@friendsofduboisbadlands.org.
