2024 Plant and Bird Inventory

On June 7, 2024,  we gathered with Emma Freeland of the BLM to explore the plant diversity of the Badlands in Mason Draw.  We used the “intuitive meander” approach so that plants are inventoried by habitat type to capture the total diversity. It was a phenomenal experience!

The Friends of Dubois Badlands completed another opportunistic bird count on June 19, 2024 to gain a better understanding of species abundance and diversity within the WSA. This count, along with previous opportunistic data, will serve as a baseline of birds in the area during the Spring season. A total of 312 individual birds and 41 species were observed on June 19, 2024 with 13 new species observed this year.
