Continuing Species Inventory Projects

Every year we work to upgrade the local flora and fauna inventories that demonstrate the values of the wilderness aspect of these Badlands and whose record can be useful in protecting these environments!. We need many helpers who are happy to join a hike and learn about identifying plants and birds!  Check the website closer to June for details.

June 5: Plant Inventory

With the BLM botanist, Emma Freeland. the Sheep Center and many good local botanists we will do a survey of several sections of the WSA to compare with previous year’s survey.

June 7: Bird Inventory

Join us in identifying what birds are in our locality at this time of year so it can be compared with previous years.

Wondering What Else?

The rest of the summer will include Bats, plants poisonous to sheep, a famous insect author or a soils talk.  Of course we will continue hikes, exploration of geology and programs with school kids.  Watch for a surprise.
