August 30: Talk on Using native plants and insects to improve wildlife
Friday, Aug 30 Dr. Michael Curran speaks on “Building Terrestrial Foodwebs Through Native Plant Establishment.” On Saturday he will lead a Badlands hike identifying important native plants and their insects!
We have a fantastic opportunity to hear one of the leading experts on restoring ecosystems using native plants to build the necessary insect populations for the restoration to succeed. Dr. Curran has won many awards and acknowledgements’. A sample paper of his work is Insect/Pollinators Respond Favorably to Reclamation in a Semi-arid Natural Gas Field . Hike Saturday August 31
He will lead a hike in the Badlands on Saturday, August 31, concentrating on plants and their insect pollinators. To quote him “Insects are critical components of terrestrial ecosystems and are often considered ecosystem engineers.” Please register for the hike.
