The Invasive Species Project: Tamarisk!
In August, 2021 a group of us in the newly formed Friends of Dubois Badlands removed a young tamarisk tree that had started to grow in one of the canyons off Byrd Draw. Tamarisk is a highly invasive species that WY Game and Fish was very happy to have us remove. Happily the little stump shown below has no sign of life in 2022.
Cheat grass is a very invasive species in bighorn sheep habitat. IN conjunction with Game and Fish, a large area of Byrd Draw was sprayed for cheat grass. Unfortunately it seems to have had little affect that we could see this year.
