WY Biodiversity Bioblitz

The Friends of Dubois Badlands joined the June 13-15, 2024 WY Biodiversity Bioblitz! WYNDD, the Wyoming Natural Diversity Database and the Biodiversity Institute have done their annual Wyoming BioBlitz, hosted by Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative (WRBI) in Morton, WY. We assisted the WRBI in gathering ecological data related to buffalo reintroduction on their current lands in the 17,000 acre area fenced for buffalo. We evaluated plants, birds and insects as well as held educational workshops for children and adults This was an exciting opportunity be a part of a real inventory. And it was wonderful to work among the buffalo and to participate in the evening tribal ceremonies.

“On June 13, about a hundred people—children, parents, elders, biologists, and naturalists—gathered at the WRTBI headquarters to survey the biodiversity there… Ultimately, the team found 71 bird, 70 insect, 58 plant, eight mammal, and four reptile species.”
